Whew! What a holiday weekend!!!

Nope, didn’t do the whole Black Friday thing. I may be a little touched in the head, but I ain’t that touched!   There is not a deal good enough to get me out of the comfort of my pajamas! I applaud all of you “touched” people who did brave stores. I hope that you got some great deals!!!

Our trip to Arkansas was great. It was so nice to get away from the house and those completely insane cats of ours.  However, I think I am going to have to revoke Chris’ driving privileges.  He missed two turn offs.  You would think this was the first time that he has driven to my parents house. Unfortunately for him, I was in charge of the ipod and his punishment for missing a turn…..Backstreet Boys! Teach him not to follow the 412 signs!

On our way home we stopped by a store called Oops. It’s a closeout/overstock warehouse. Man oh man! I am going to have to start making frequent trips there. It was so cool. I totally scored some great candle sticks and some small wooden trunks and some wooden boxes. Can’t wait to whatchamadoodle them!  We also stopped at this antique/junk shop in a huge red barn. I found this awesome tool box. It’s huge and it was only $12.00!!! WOW!

Chris and I rearrange my work tables to accommodate it. I love it! It holds all of my tools and stuff!

Before leaving for our trip, I finished up that custom order I was working on.  I think they turned out great. I just hope that my office mate likes them and more importantly, I hope that her nieces like them!

TAM_2922

You really can’t tell in this picture, but I used stickles on the front, top and sides for a little added bling!

Only a month away from WhatchaMaDoodles.com going live. I had better get to cracking! I have a ton of projects to get finished.  Now if the weather would start cooperating a bit, I have three small tool caddies, 3 pencil/doodad holders, 2 picture frames and a couple of boxes that need clear coat. I need a sunny day!!!

I love my son!

That pretty well goes without saying!  He sent me a link to this video.  When he was a little guy, this song (well the original by Queen) was his favorite song. We played it over and over again.  He called it the “head banging song”.  Every time we got in our car, he would squeal, “Play the head banging song MOM!”
Well, he sent me this clip and said, “I thought of you when I saw this!”.  And you know what, I really needed this today!  So I am sharing it with all of you! Enjoy and have a great laugh!

Happy Thanksgiving….

…..We are heading out early tomorrow to Arkansas to spend the Thanksgiving Holiday with my parents.

We will be back on Saturday and I am sure I will have something funny to share of our 6 hour drive adventure through the Ozarks.

Fun and Funky Candle Sticks

I promised a few weeks ago to post pictures of those candles sticks I redid.  Well, here they are.  TAM_2917Even though these are very time consuming to paint and decorate, they are a lot of fun.  Over Thanksgiving weekend I am going to have to hit some of my favorite discount and thrift stores to find more to “jazz” up!

A friend of mine told me about this place in Arkansas that I need to shop.  Which happens to be on the way to my parents house!  So on our way back this weekend, I am going to have to find this place called “Oops” and see if I can score some more candle sticks.

I am really enjoying finding things and repurposing them. It just makes them more unique and fun!

It’s a dirty job…

….and I sure ain’t gonna do it!

IMG_1686_2885

Chris is off this entire week, while I have to work.  Well, I worked today and will work tomorrow. So instead of Chris laying around eating bon bons, I left him a honey do list that consisted of only one thing……”Honey, please sand those wooden plaques for me”…what I failed to tell him was how many wooden plaques there are that need sanding. <insert big goofy smile here>.

Tomorrow I will have two requests….”Honey, can you finish sanding those plaques AND can you sand some wooden boxes for me?”  I am not going to tell him how many wooden boxes there are, however, I am betting that he will ask this time around! heehee!!

Here is the treasure box I did this past weekend.  I did something a bit different. I think it turned out great! So much fun!!!

A colorful day….

Three day weekend = 3 doo-dad holder thingies, 2 four drawer mini chests, 2 picture frames, 2 decorated boxes and 1 candle stick! Whew, I was one painting fool!

Here is just a sample:

This first picture was taken of the 3 doo-dad holder thingies (I really need to figure out a better name for them) before I was completely finished with them….obviously since the ball knobs are still stuck on my handy dandy redneck drying stand.

TAM_2851

Colorful huh? How in the world can you not smile when you look at all of those wonderful funky colors?! I know I can’t!

TAM_2856

These are waiting on their turn for clear coat.

I think after this weekend, I can draw out checker boards in my sleep!

I am not the only hobbyist in the house…..

You know, I don’t think I have ever shown off some of Chris’ work on my blog.  Chris builds model cars. He doesn’t just build what is in the box, he scratch builds parts and whatever he might need to make the car more realistic. I don’t know how he does it, I would go cross eyed dealing with all of those itty bitty parts.

Chris is a very gifted artist as well.  He studied Art in college.  I wish I had 1/2 his talent.  But don’t go telling him that….I don’t want his to get a big head .

Here is just a small sample of his model car collection.  Pretty cool, huh?

Please excuse the mess.....

......my blog is going through a make over.  So it might be a little wonkee (I love that word, is it really a word though?) for the day.

Half way through the week…

…man it’s been a long week.  Tomorrow is my “Friday” and I have a busy busy weekend planned. But it’s going to be a fun weekend.
So what is your plan for the weekend? Anything fun?
Fall is definitely here.  Temperatures have been dropping down in the 30’s here. I am loving it, except early in the morning when I have to get up and take a shower.  Our bathroom is “Little Siberia”.  I swear, every winter we plan to do something about that “during the spring” and by spring, we forget, until it gets cold again.  This year is no different. It’s #458 on the things to do around the house list.
Here is a box that I did a few weeks ago and forgot to share on my blog. I posted it yesterday on the WhatchaMaDoodles Facebook page.  So if you have already seen this, sorry for the repeat.

Doodles upon Doodles

Another thing that I did accomplish while Matt was home was oodles of doodles!  That is one thing I can do sitting on the couch laughing at Chris and Matt play guitar hero.
These are pretty simple, but loads of fun!

Like I Promised….

…After dropping Matt off at the airport, Chris and I stopped by the Goodwill Store.  I have never been there, so I didn’t know what to expect. I can tell you one thing, I will be going back. There were more clothes than anything, but there was a pretty good selection of house decor stuff. I found some really unique shelves and some picture frames.  They are going to get “WhatchaMaDoodled” in the coming weeks! I will try to remember to take before and after pictures.
After the Goodwill Store, we stopped by Rivercity Trading Post in Jenks. I love that place. It’s a mix of antiques, crafts, and junk. I totally scored some awesome candle sticks.  4 to be exact.  Here are two that I have almost done.  They are waiting for some clear coat.
WHA_2794
And if you look on my work table, there is another candle stick that is waiting to be started on. I know it’s a terrible picture and it’s kinda dark, but hopefully you see it. It’s sitting right of the colorful cup of paint water.
WHA_2790
I did complete one painting project while Matt was home. It was one of those evenings where Guitar Hero was blaring in the living room and I made my escape.
It’s a doo-dad holder. I think it is a great pen/pencil holder.  Chris thinks it would be a great business card and pencil holder, and my best friend thinks it is a great cell phone holder.  So what do you think it would be good for?

I have to post this final picture. It’s just too cute not to share! It’s never safe not hanging up my bag!

I promise...

.....that there will be a post this evening! I can't believe I have not posted one thing since Monday.  Well, I did kinda have a distraction and I know that you guys are very understanding.

I scored some awesome candle sticks at Rivercity Trading Post (a great antique/thrift shop I love to haunt) on Saturday after taking Matt to the airport.  They are a work in process right now, but I will post some pics.  I am also working on a custom order for two of my fun 4 drawer mini chests. So it's going to be a busy busy week for me.  Chris is going to be very busy as well, he is my official sander these days! I have at least 20 plaques and probably 15 to 20 boxes for him to sand! :)

Stay tuned.....

Sorry I have been MIA….

Our weekend was full of laughter, Guitar Hero, more laughter and a lot more Guitar Hero!!!
Matt doesn’t leave here until Saturday, so my posts will be slim. But I promise once his visit is over, I will be back to posting again.
Here is another wooden caddy I completed last weekend.

It’s all Good

The sound of Guitar Hero playing at 7 am, Porcupine Tree dvd blaring, conversations about loud cars and Moose.  I love Matt being home!
And by the looks of our guest room, it’s no doubt that Matt is home….he still hasn’t learned to keep things picked up. LOL!
IMG_1598_2770 IMG_1599_2771
Matt flew all the way from Alaska to play Guitar Hero!  The first day he was home, we had to head to WalMart to pick up the latest Guitar Hero games.  We now have 8 in our collection. Nope, I don’t play. I just listen and laugh!

It’s so great having him home!

As my sister said on Facebook….Today History has been made……..

Something incredible happened to me today, a wonderful surprise, that has been two months in the making, that left me SPEECHLESS….(like I said, History has been made)!
I wasn’t in a particularly good mood today. I was tired, I was cranky, and I really didn’t want to be at work. I wanted to be in bed asleep.  My boss was suppose to get me some pressing things to do this morning and so I was waiting for that to hit my email.  At 8:30 am, still nothing from my boss. Not one email or phone call.  Obviously, what he needed wasn’t that pressing.  I was grumpy!
Matt had texted me telling me about his trip to Seward and that his whale watching was a bust, no whales. So we texted back and forth for a few minutes.  That put a temporary smile on my face.  I ate my breakfast and by 9 am, I was ready to go home and go to bed and forget this day.
Then suddenly….there is a knock coming from the inside of my boss’s office.  My boss is not in the office today.  My first thought was that the cleaning lady used the wrong door again and was in my boss’s office.  But why was she knocking from the inside of the office, just open the freaking door.  I went to the door, it’s locked.  Back to my desk to get the key.  The knocking got very loud and very annoying.  Okay, whoever it is, is really starting to piss me off.  Didn’t they realize that I am tired and cranky and am in no mood for whatever they were doing.
I unlock and open the door, I am looking at my dear friend Leesa who is taking my picture.  Why in the hell is she taking a picture of me.  She is laughing.  Out of the corner of my eye, I see someone sitting at my boss’s desk.  He is dressed in a blue uniform.  It takes me a moment to process this moment. It is my SON!!! I screamed, “OH MY GAWD”, threw my hand over my mouth and was in complete shock. Everyone in my world knows how much I hate surprises, hate them with a passion.  I had to walk out into the hallway and had to compose myself.
Let me back up a minute.  While Chris and I were on break earlier, Chris’ boss calls him on his cell phone and tells him to be up in Randy’s office (the Director of Purchasing) at 9 am.  Which is weird.  Anyway, Chris stops by my desk and then heads down to Randy’s office.  Well, about two minutes later, Chris and Randy are back in mine and Jolynn’s office asking to use Terry’s office for a meeting.  Umm, okay.  Well, the way our office is set up is actually three offices in one.  Jolynn and I share an “outer” type office and then her boss, Terry’s office is to her left and my boss’s office is to my right.  You have to enter mine and Jolynn’s office to get into theirs.
Chris and I were completely set up by Matt and his co-conspirators, my dear friend and co-worker Leesa, my officemate Jolynn, the Director of Purchasing Randy and my boss Tray.  They have been planning and working on this for two months now.
I am still in shock, but here are the pictures that Leesa was snapping during this entire episode! I love my son!

Happy Birthday Matt!!!

I can’t believe that my baby is 21 years old! Oh MY GOSH!!!! Exactly, when did that happen? I don’t remember giving him permission to grow up past the age of 8 years old, when he still had that cute little squeaky voice, still liked giving his mom unlimited hugs, and still laughed at my very corny jokes. Oh, and those chubby little cheeks! I miss those chubby little cheeks of his!

Happy Birthday my wonderful son! I am so proud of you and that man you have become!
